Wriarteachers are a crazy breed of writer-teacher-arts administrator.Wriarteach! Rawr!
I may be morphing into one of these disturbing beings. I keep meeting more Wriarteachers. It seems to be the way it sometimes goes in this wacky world where no one will let you just be one thing.
I'm starting to explore more of my "arts administrator" side. This morning I had a lovely meeting with Annie and Jen at Portland Literary Arts about possible internship opportunities. If I get the position, I will be working about eight hours a week doing various different tasks and projects. What mostly excites me about this internship is simply being in a non-profit arts establishment again and learning about the inner workings of programs such as Portland Arts & Lectures,Writers in the Schools and the Oregon Book Awards.
Right now I'm in a coffee shop looking through Silk Road submissions before I meet with Kyle and Lara to discuss (scream, cry, bite, kick) over which pieces are going into the next issue. So far we've just been corresponding through emails, so it will be so nice to meet over some beer at McMenamins.
I'm also working on a revising a couple stories for my last packet to send out to Pete Fromm, my instructor at Pacific University. They're coming along well but I need to pick up the pace if I want them ready by next Wednesday. I can't believe that this semester is almost over. Next semester I'll be working on my essay, yikes. I better come up with something quick.
I'm looking forward to going to Wordstock for Teachers, a birthday present I received from one very loving Elijah Brubaker. These will be the first teaching classes I've taken and I'm really looking forward to them. I'll be sure to post about how all this goes.
All and all, things are coming along well. Moving forward, I guess.

Alissa,
Just getting caught up on life in your world...it sounds like many wonderful things are happening. The Silk Road is a beautiful name. I like it a lot. I am rooting for you and that internship.
I miss Portland. I miss you and the girls and all those familiar places. I was so ready to get out of the city itself, and have found that absence has made this heart grow fonder of P-Town's winter gloominess. Love you and hope you are enjoying the TFaz table! Suzy
